Kāpiti Economic Development Strategy – 2018 – 2020.

Project Lead: Jenna-Lea Philpott
Project Status: Delivery
Start Date: January, 2018
Delivery Date: September, 2020

Group founder Jenna-Lea Philpott, was an independent community representative and volunteer member of the working group assisting consultants and staff at KCDC to draft the Kāpiti Economic Development Strategy from October 2018 – July 2020.

For the first time, the arts and creative industries have been identified as a key sector in the Kāpiti economy, alongside construction, aged care, retail, and professional, scientific and technical services. Key actions are:

Supporting Key Sectors:

  • Support the Kāpiti Creative Industries cluster group to develop the Kāpiti Creative Industries Action Plan, including attracting investment to assess the feasibility of establishing a Creative Hub, skills development, and visitor attraction projects.
  • Support the development and ongoing growth of industry-led groups.

Areas for Improvement:

  • Support for key sectors and having a better understanding of their potential for growth and how best to facilitate and support this in partnership with the sector. Initial focuses would include sectors such as Tourism and Creative Industries.

The Strategy will be delivered by a new independently chaired governance board in partnership with a wide range of delivery partners, including Creative Kāpiti.
